Frankie Say...Finally!!!!! July 13, 2010 David Tiberi (Canada) This is by far the best re-issue of FGTH seminal album.
It has been given the best remastered treatment, plus it has been put back in its original european order (the US/Canadian edition was different, and some music omissions were made).
This is a must for any true Frankie Fan!!!!!
The ultimate version? I don't think so July 12, 2010 Uncle5 (UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Disc 1 - no complaints, really. It's the original album, with all of its original charms and deficiencies (eg, "Two Tribes" is inferior to the original 7" version, as is the version of War, "Ferry Cross the Mersey" was omitted, etc).
Disc 2 - at the very least, this CD should have been the opportunity to rectify and improve on the material missing from the original release, as mentioned above. But no such luck - the material on this "ultimate" version is mainly filler. A dull (and poorly edited) 15 minute version of various versions of Relax (the original ZTT 12" mix would have done fine), a rather basic short mix of Two Tribes, another mix of Relax (some of which is already included in the 15 minute version elsewhere), various tracks consisting of the lads talking over some sub-Art Of Noise ambient instrumentals, no sign of Ferry Across The Mersey (the "b" side of Relax). I could go on...
This could have been a classic album back in its 1980s heyday - up there with ABC's Lexicon Of Love - if it had been trimmed down to just a single album focusing on just the singles and the stronger tracks, and leaving out the pretentious stuff. As it is, the album ended up as a mixed bag amd sowed the seeds for Frankie's subsequent fall from grace. This ultimate release simply repeats the same mistakes.
Good on the whole but a lot of filler June 17, 2010 J. Thompson (Coventry United Kingdom) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I only really got this for the "hits" and have fond memories from the 80's of Relax, Two Tribes, War, WTTPD, Power of Love, etc. They don't disappoint and sound as good now, and not that dated.
To be honest the rest is OK but there is a lot of filler and many of these tracks are just short inserts.
For the price though worth getting, for a trip down memory lane!
Welcome Back To The Pleasuredome ! May 18, 2010 Paul Chapman 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
I'm astounded by the reviews here !
Firstly, the remaster is excellent, people are used to remasters being 100 decibels (for the deaf Ipod generation). This new remaster brings out even more subtle detail.
Regarding CD2, I'm amazed some people are moaning about it.
Firstly all tracks are taken from the original master tapes (the first time this has ever happened with the exception of The Sonic Collection SACD). They may seem like a mixed bag to some & I agree to a point, the Greek Mix of Relax will never be essential, however you have Greatest Bits (as mentioned is the cassette mix of Relax) which in my opinion is the only mix you'll ever need.
In addition, excellent demo's, a fantastic mix of The Ballad of 32, the only track that shouldn't even really be on this is Watusi Love Juicy which doesn't date from this album, but a curio never the less
The issue is the access to the "Goodies Cupboard". Like a lot of bands archives, labelling was incorrect if at all on many, hence the Pleasure Fix mix of WTTPD & Starfix mix of Only Star In Heaven (both overrated "instrumentals", were indeed found but too late for inclusion.
What we do have finally, is an amazing album finally being given the treatment is DESERVES.
Frankly (or should that be Frankiely?)at this bargain price, who can really complain??
What? May 17, 2010 RogRat (Micronesia) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
A 2 disc version and still no extended version of Two Tribes. A have SACD of Rage Hard which sounds great so I'll pass thanks.
Only given 5 stars because no-one should mark something down without owning it.
