It has been a great transition from Windows August 18, 2010 Mr Amar Dont let the title confuse you. before you read, a lot of other people on amazon have reviewed this product in more detail so if you want more in depth then read others, this review is based on my opinion and experience with this product.
This is my first time writing a review so i may lack the skills on how to write a good review so apologies.
So last year august 2009 i bought New Macbook Pro from apple, i finally made the switch from pc to a mac it has been a great experience, you people must be thinking why didn't i buy snow leopard last year well the reason for that is i wanted to learn everything about leopard then upgrade. ok enough of the history,
i ordered snow leopard upgrade yesterday and i got the second day delivery, amazon promised i would get it 1pm to day and it came at 11 so 3 hours before, thank you amazon for this fast delivery. to upgrade on my macbook pro it was really easy insert the disk and follow the on screen instructions. it took around 40 Minutes, all my files were there once the upgrade had been done.
oh yeah another thing i doubted that by upgrading i would gain space instead of lose it, let me assure you i was wrong so before installing i had 420GB of hard drive space on a 500GB, now i have 460 GB, you do the maths people.....i gained 30 GB more space. yay!
So people don't hesitate just go ahead buy this upgrade you will be glad, its £25.
I hope this helped. :)
i know its hard to take a strangers opinion whether this product is good or not.
dont forget to rate this review. thanks
upgrade from tiger August 7, 2010 chris I bought this to upgrade an Intel IMac from Tiger (one of the older White ones). Everything I read lead me to believe that you must either pay to upgrade to Leopard first or pay a lot more for the full upgrade (including new Ilife). Neither is true. Upgrade was simple, everything works.
Simple upgrade from 10.4 to 10.6. July 21, 2010 Simon Downing (Huddersfield, West Yorkshire United Kingdom) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Brought an iPhone 4 on Monday, plugged it into my MacBook and it informed me it needed 10.5.something!! After a little research I found my Intel based (only Intel based ones do) MacBook at 10.4.11 (Tiger) could be upgraded 10.6 with this disk. I ordered it Tuesday, it arrive Wednesday (this morning!). I backed up iTunes and all my photos, popped in the disc and followed the on screen instructions, an hour or so later and after downloading new software updates it was all set. Didn't lose any photos/music/data (always a good idea to backup anyway) and all the old apps are there (like iPhoto etc) plus my iPhone 4 is now working! (Just made a back up of my 3GS which iTunes used in the 4)
DESIGNERS BEWARE of helvetica font issue July 21, 2010 Cooper Hayes (Leicestershire) I upgraded from Tiger 10.4 because I thought my iMac was feeling a bit clunky. So at £23 quid I thought what harm can it do to catch up with the times, right? The OS installed brilliantly as usual, however I immediately realised my biggest problem the minute I tried to run Indesign. My old version of suitcase no longer worked, and all my fonts were unavailable. I therefore had to immediately upgrade to suitcase Fusion 2 (seems great by the way) at an additional $65. Got all fonts running fine except for the designer's bread and butter - Helvetica Neue. The Snow Leopard system has it's own 'undeletable' protected version of this installed which prevents any other postcript version of Neue being allowed to run. As a result, I've had to replace all fonts in a live job to the Mac .ttc version which messed up some baseline alignments and text flow requiring unnecessary time and attention. Any other job I go back to will need the same treatment. There are work-arounds posted on the web to allow you to throw the system version away, but having tried this, my whole system went caput and I could no longer launch a programme. Not sure what I did wrong! Apple shouldn't mess with this - it's foremost a designer's tool and the choice of fonts is our prerogative. Anyway I put all the original system fonts back in their place and after a few shut downs and restarts it sorted itself out. Other than that, I have to say I'm not aware of any major improvements in the way it all runs. I don't like that I can no longer see a little arrow above the icons in the dock to show which programme is running, nor the new look mail interface, and emails seem to take longer to send. But perhaps I'm grumbling because my introduction to Snow Leopard was so stressful! If it ain't broke...
good, but some network probs July 20, 2010 reuben (Jersey (Channel islands)) first of all, this is much improved from leopard, all thongs tweaked a bit to make them better. i have found a few niggles though. when my macbook is hooked up to a monitor and is connecting to wi-fi, the mouse becomes jumpy. you turn airport off, and its fine again, so you have to use and ethernet cable. the strange thing is, its only jumps with my devolo wireless extender and not with my belkin 54g. great overall, as if you have tiger you can upgrade straight to snow leopard and dont have to buy leopard first for £70
